Useful biomass information
Here you can find links to credible information about renewable energy, in particular biomass.
By converting the energy embodied in the wood into heat at over 90% efficiency, a biomass boiler provides you with what you need, where you need it when you need it. It does not add to the considerable strain on an electricity grid that is already creaking due to the fluctuations in supply and demand. It creates a demand for low-quality timber which drives active woodland management – regular thinning which improves biodiversity and, possibly counterintuitively, increases carbon uptake as the remaining trees expand to fill the spaces. Ultimately, it results in more, higher quality, timber being produced which is available for building and other long term use.
Numerous studies have concluded that generating heat from sustainable biomass is one of the most environmentally friendly options available. Strict regulation ensures that all biomass used for heat in the UK is ‘sustainable’.
