Dunster Biomass Training at Bicton Earth

in the company training centre, Bicton Earth

All our engineering and installation teams are made up of time-served engineers with a passion for biomass, many of whom have their own biomass installations at home. The team members all participate in our continuous training programme to expand their knowledge and to keep them at the forefront of the biomass industry.

Of course our installation teams would be nothing without the organisation and support of the office administration team, which also follows our in-house training programme, ensuring whoever you speak to at Dunster will be able to help.

Dunster vehicleThe Dunster Ethos

Dunster’s success has been built on all the installations we have carried out in the last decade. During that time our core values of continuous improvement, value for money, quality, service and integration have become engrained in our company’s ethos and the ways in which we work.

Management team

David Hugh-Smith – Managing Director

David became involved with Dunster Biomass Heating after the company installed an ETA wood chip system in his property. So impressed was he by his new heating system, David made enquiries about how he could help Dunster develop as a company, with the result that he became Dunster’s Managing Director in 2011. David brings two decades of management experience to the business. Previously a director at PepsiCo and Moloney Search, David has become a devoted enthusiast of biomass heating. Deeply passionate about the countryside he grew up in, David’s role at Dunster allows him to focus his considerable skills in harnessing and sustaining the UK’s natural energy resources.

Brendon Frost – Commercial Director

Brendon was raised on biomass heating. The house he grew up in (just outside of Dunster) was heated by a log boiler, and his father, Clifford, started one of the country’s first biomass heating companies. HETAS-qualified, with over a decade’s experience installing biomass boilers, and having travelled Europe specifically to research the technology behind them, Brendon’s industry expertise is prodigious. Not satisfied with the pre-existing boilers on the UK market, Brendon discovered ETA. He was convinced enough of the merits of ETA boilers to become the UK’s first ETA boiler importer; since then, neither ETA nor Brendon has looked back. Brendon has an ETA boiler installed in his current place of residence.

John Witt – Technical Director

John began his career as a plumber. During this time, he gained qualifications to fit gas, oil and LPG boilers. John’s interest in boiler technology led him to focus on the design and installation of heating systems; John quickly found his niche in biomass. He now has years of experience in biomass heating. Formerly a biomass commissioning and service engineer with Econergy, John has been involved with some of the largest scale biomass boiler installations in the UK including district heating systems for up to 96 houses. John trained to fit biomass systems in Austria, learning his craft from professionals at the forefront of the biomass industry. John has always been keen to incorporate cutting-edge technology into system design in order to maximise efficiency levels. He says the intelligence, power and reliability of ETA boilers make them the finest technology he has worked with.

Alasdair Peppe – Director (Scotland)

After receiving a degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, Alasdair served in the Royal Navy as a Warfare Officer gaining broad experience ranging from command of a frigate to operational planning in a joint headquarters. Leaving the Navy in 2011, he joined Dunster as Sales Director in Somerset and then moved to Morayshire to help run Dunster (Scotland) when it was formed in 2014. Alasdair is passionate about the environmental benefits of biomass heating and particularly enjoys designing bespoke systems to suit the specific requirements of a client. He has undertaken the design, specification and project management of a wide range of projects including schools, industrial processes, farms and country houses.

Ian Goodchild – Sales Director

Ian joined Dunster in October 2012 as a Business Development Manager. His passion and industry expertise soon led him to be appointed as Sales Director in April 2015. Prior to working at Dunster, Ian was a Business Development Manager at Fair Energy Ltd, responsible for the sale of biomass heating solutions and other renewable technologies across the UK. Ian developed key relationships within the renewable industry and was involved in bringing renewable technologies to the UK housing stock, local authorities and housing associations. He combines his construction background with biomass expertise to design and plan multi-site projects. His experience has allowed him to provide solutions to a wide variety of sectors from commercial and industrial B2B, to estates, schools, public sector and end users B2C. Ian believes in delivering exceptional customer service to ensure repeated business and mutual growth.
